Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be physically fit ?
No, not really, but if you have doubts about your health, please check with your GP first.

I'm female, can I play ?
Definitely yes. We have a very well established Ladies team and always look for new members. If you feel up to it, you can join in with the men's sessions as well.

I've never kicked a ball before, will I be sidelined ?
No, never. We can and will teach you how, also the rules, the basics and finer points of the game. You'll soon pick it up in a couple of weeks.

I think my skill and fitness levels are different to other players, will I fit in ?
Club members come from a variety of backgrounds, some have been professional players, others have never kicked a ball before. All shapes and sizes fit !

Do I need to be a certain age ?
There are no age restrictions for the ladies, however for the men it's slightly different. Men's competitions are normally segregated into 50+, 60+ and 65+ and the recommendation is that it's a sport for the over 50's. If you are younger than this, you could however play in training sessions but not in competitive matches with other clubs.

I think I may be tempted to run, is it a problem ?
Everybody has the same doubt. The sport is surprisingly quicker than reported by the popular press. You can move as fast as you like, providing you have one foot in contact with the ground at all times. Just think in terms of 5 or 6 a side with extra safety rules.

Are there changing rooms ?
There are both male and female changing rooms and showers available, you can also use the swimming pool changing facilities. When playing away, we will endeavour to inform members about the away facilities.

Do I need to become a member ?
Not by paper form. We use a smart phone app to keep in touch and invite you to events and sessions, all is needed is one click to confirm your attendance or not. The club just needs your name and mobile number. We can use an email address, if you don't have a (suitable) smart phone.

Is there a Walking Football season ?
There is no Walking Football season as such. There are events and tournaments throughout the year, with summer being the most popular time.

Do I need shin pads to play ?
The Club recommends that you should wear them during practice sessions. However they may be compulsory when playing against other teams in tournaments and league matches.

I wear glasses, do I wear them or not ?
Some players need their glasses and there is an element of risk involved. If you can get away with not wearing them, then that would be the best option.

Are there football sessions during holiday periods ?
All sessions run normally but may not if it's a bank holiday, when we may poll members. In the event of a bank holiday cancellation, members are informed well in advance.

What if the weather is bad ?
If there is a chance of a layer of snow, a pitch assessment is carried out a few hours before a session. Should the club decide to make changes, such as cancellation or moving the session indoors, members are informed ASAP. It's feasible for a session to be abandoned because of the weather, such as air to ground lightening, but unlikely.
